My Pal. 1924.
A rare discovery in the vaults of The National Film And Sound Archive Australia; My Pal, 1924, made by the Atlas Educational Film Co, with 'Smiling' Ralph Mulford. An industrial/educational film made to highlight the Cleveland Six motor car, sponsored by the Cleveland Motor Car Company. The film is more dramatic than educational and features the motor car racer, Ralph Mulford, touring the Rockies. There are views of the Garden of the Gods and the Cliff Dwellings. At dusk the auto party sits listening to the radio which brings word that Mulford's travelling companion, Dr Kimball, is being sought to care for a child who lies in critical condition in a Denver hospital. Ralph Mulford must get Dr Kimball to the hospital 100 miles away through landslide-blocked roads at night. The peak is crossed in a blizzard and Dr Kimball is able to perform the operation successfully. The grateful parents thank the doctor and driver but Mulford indicates that any gratitude should belong to his pal the Cleveland Six parked outside. My Pal, is a 35mm diacetate film source scanned at 4K with original hand tints preserved.

Everyone gets a paper from Don the paper man in the Vauxhall? Maybe it was the free weekly local rag he was chucking. Life was more simple back then, more relaxed, uncomplicated and a happy life without the pressures we have today. One would have a coronary today to see the real estate prices on the northern beaches of Sydney! How about a repeat of the film, this time out in western Sydney?

One of the few videos where Russell “Big Chief” Moore is featured on trombone. He replaced Trummy Young in 1964 and was later replaced by Tyree Glenn in 1965. I always loved Billy Kyle’s accompanying on piano.

imagine being in love in this time period- going out to live music, how electric it must've felt to go & enjoy a band when entertainment was much less accessible and art was highly revered. ♡ beautiful video. I know a few older people/relatives who clearly still live in this time and haven't 'moved on', and while that can be frustrating; I really don't blame them.

Fond memories of my teen years in Newcastle, great town, great people and great to grow up in. I lived in Mayfield and Wallsend, considered rough areas at the time, but I had no problems. Take the odd sickie off work and head surfing at Stockton beach for a few days, a great life. Remember the Newcastle Permanent Building Society advert jingle from the 1970's? "Hey this is our town..."😉

In 1979 when this video was filmed, "Old" Parliament House 2:25 consisted of 124 Members of Parliament (MP's) in the Lower House (House of Reps) and 64 Senators 17:58 (10 per state and 2 per territory) in the upper house (Senate); Government on the Right, Opposition on the Left. Today, "New" Parliament House consists of 151 MP's in the Lower House and 76 Senators (12 per state and 2 per territory) in the Upper House; Government on the Right, Opposition on the Left, Independent/s and Other Minor Parties in the middle (AKA: The Crossbench). It's amazing how much we learn about our own democracy regardless of how controversial our politicians really are when it comes to representing their constituencies.

These tradesmen could support their family, buy a house and his wife could stay home if she wanted to raise their children. A carpenter now can produce close to 3x the amount of work, invests many multiples more in tools yet earns less in real terms. Where’s all the excess money going🤔
